Some sort of geeky Sh!t

BBSes

Posted on December 6, 2010 by | 1 Comment

A little while ago I wrote about the web not being the net. I don’t think a lot of normal people, i.e. non geeks would know what the internet is. Most people tend to think the World Wide Web is the Internet. But it’s not as I explained in my The WWW is not the internet! post.

Wow the internet without the web? Huh? What? How? Buliten Board Systems is what and how. BBSes as they became known were one of the first mass used services on the internet before the internet went commercial. Hundreds and thousands of people used them, and there are even still some alive today if you are interested check out The BBS Corner’s Telnet BBS Guide, The BBS-scene and Synchronet’s BBS for some BBS software and a list of BBSes..

If you are interested and really Geeky, like me, then you will enjoy BBS the Documentary. A documentary about the history of BBSes. Checkout G4tv – Pulse on BBS The Documentary:

The best thing about BBS the Documentary is that it is released under creative commons so you can download it for free!
