My Android

In a previous post “Hey iPhone fan bois!” I pointed out that Android has overtaken Apples iOS platform as the most used platform in the US on mobile smart phones. I prefer my Android because it’s open source. I’m a big fan of OSS. And my Android is so much more customizable, I can customize my home screens, all 5 of them. There are a bunch of great free apps. So I want to share how I organize my home screens and showoff how good looking Android can be. I’ll go from left to right top to bottom.
A photo of a favorite limited edition beer brewed with apples. It’s better than that beer I tried once tried that was brewed with raspberries, that was god awful. Using photo frame, a widget that comes pre installed. Below that are some of my favorite games. I use this is my games screen.
The next screen is my task and internet screen. The task widget at the top is Astrid Tasks. I find that writing down my tasks helps me remember what to do and helps me get things done. Astrid is one of the better, if not the best, task manager/to do lists I have found. Below that is the Google search app that comes pre installed, it’s useful for quick searches. The 4 icons below are my 4 most visited web sites, ones that I visit daily. The NAB icon is a link to my internet banking because I always use internet bsnking and it’s incredibly useful when I’m out and about.
The third screen is my home screen. At the top is Fancy Widget. This is by far one of the best time and date/weather widgets. You can see the time and date as well as the weather at a glance and it’s incredibly good looking. There is a free version and a paid version that has skins available. I’m more than happy with the free version. Below Fancy Widget is Battery Life, the best looking and useful battery widget I have found. You can change the colour scheme (which changes colour to visually let you know how much battery is left) colours or even turn colour scheme off. You can also turn on/off the extra battery information as well as being able to ask it to display the temperature in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. Below the battery widget are my 4 most used apps, I have them on this screen for quick access.
On the 4th screen at the top is Perfect System Monitor. Because I’m a geek and I like o know what’s going on under the hood. I love metrics. The next widget is Widgetsoid, an app that lets you customize which buttons you want to display, how many and you can also change the way it looks with the built in Theme editor. The white widget below is the PDA Net widget for quick access to tether my phone. Since The upgrade I don’t really need it any more because Android natively supports tethering now. The four icons at the bottom are for applications I use regularly.
The last screen is my apps screen. At the top is another photo of a really nice limited edition beer brewed by one of my favorite Australian brewers James Squire. The Hop Theif Ale was a beautiful brew that I’ll always remember. Blow that are some of my favorite and useful apps.
