I have been researching Steampunk recently and I came across this short Cyberpunk film. Steampunk is kind of like Cyberpunk but less dystopian. Anyway the short film has great CGI, zombies, guns, there is the obligatory mega corporation, tech ect… I can’t find anything to not like about it.

Steam Achievements
Posted on November 13, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments

I love Steam. Have I already mentioned that? Probably, but I do, Steam is great. Awesome games at great prices, it’s convenient, you can back up and restore your games easily, the Steam application is easy to use and looks good to boot. To put it simply I think Valve and Steam are the best things that have happened to gaming since for ever.
One feature of Steam that I have recently warmed to recently is Achievements. I used to think they were a bit of a wank, and didn’t do much for the game. You either like em or you don’t. Well they are a bit of a wank still and always will be, but I think they are less wanky than I used to. Acheivments add re playability to a game. You used to beat a game and tat was it. But now with the Achievements you can replay a game once you have beaten it and try to, if you are so inclined, to get all of the Achievements. They can be a bit addictive too! I am still playing one game that I have already beaten, Defence Grid, because of Achievements. I have earned 90% of the Achievements in Defence Grid and won’t stop playing until I get all 62 Achievements.
I find that I’m playing more casual games while I wait for big games, like Portal 2, to drop and that these casual games are enhanced by Achievements.
Having said that though I still don’t think I’ll replay all of my games to try to get all of the Achievements. They work well for some games and not so well for other games.

Podcasts I listen to
Posted on November 11, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments

I can’t remember the last time I listened to the radio, seriously. The radio has pretty much turned to shite bar three or four radio stations. I hate having to conform to some radio stations time frame if I want to listen to a show. Which is why I love podcasts that I can download and listen to anywhere any time. These are the podcasts that I listen to.

Online shopping!
Posted on November 10, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments

I do a lot of shopping on line. I always buy my computer parts on line, books, music. But the thing I love about the Internet is that you can shop overseas and you can find all sorts of awesomeness around the web like my Japanese Puzzle Box, the awesome Young Mad Scientist’s First Alphabet Blocks and my rare(ish) Nixie Clock.
One of my new favorite shopping web sites to peruse is Etsy, a place where you can buy and sell hand made wares. I love unique, hand made, rare, things which I why I like Etsy. There are heaps of people around the world that have some real talent that you would never discover if it weren’t for the Internet.

Jude Buffum

I love art. I have a bunch (by bunch I mean 5) of original pieces of art hanging in my room. And I still have more to hang. I’m going to have to stop buying art because I’m going to run out of wall space to hang it. But it’s hard when awesome artists make great art like Jude Buffum.
I came across Jude’s work today and am so tempted to buy a limited edition Giclee print on canvas of Yoshi: Tastes Like Chicken or Koopa: It’s What’s For Supper.
The thing I love about Jude’s work is it’s so awesomely geeky! Another of my favourites is Jude’s submission for I Am 8-Bit 2.007.
Check out Jude’s Web site and blog.

This is it! Ninja Warrior!
Posted on November 8, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments
Geeks like to fight about which is better, Pirates or Ninjas? For me it’s Ninjas hands down. And I have found a show to prove it; Ninja Warrior.
It’s simple enough; 100 athletes (and some whack jobs) trying to finish an insanely hard 4 stage obstacle course. Remember Gladiators or Wipe Out? It’s kinda like that but on crack! I’m going to stop trying to convince you how awesome this show is, just check some of these videos:
The guy doing the commentary is hilarious he loves it! And Ayako is pretty hot too!

Whoops
Posted on November 8, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments
There was something more awesome in this post here but I accidentally deleted it.
I posted about Ninja Warrior (Google it, it’s awesome!) last night.
Then today I thought I’d give WordPress another look.
I tried to post something last night but it didn’t work, my post didn’t show up on my blog, the post was saved as a draft. No problem I’ll just edit the failed post in WordPress on my desktop and post it for real this time. So I did and it was awesome. I even had some great videos to show too.
Then today I decided to play with WordPress on my phone again and I think I may have found a bug. I edited the failed post lastnight and posted it but then when I opend WordPress on my phone it didn’t get the updated post, it still showed the old heading. It still thought the failed post was still there. So to keep things tidy I deleted the post. Well that was a mistake. It deleted the edited post, the awesome post about Ninja Warrior was gone, lost in digital cyber space for the rest of eternity.
Whoops, lesson learned. I won’t be doing that again! BTW this post was written with WordPress on my Android phone.

Give Up, Robot
Posted on November 3, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments

Wake up, Robot! It’s time to DANCEEEEEE… Jump, grapple, and swing your way through 50 levels of puzzle-platforming disco insanity. Your only enemies are the clock and the disembodied robot voice that will celebrate your failure and curse your success. Show it who’s boss through Normal mode, then tackle Hard mode’s 11 punishing levels if you’ve got any hair left (they’ll surely take care of that).
Give Up, Robot is a fun little platformer that is sort of like an 8bit disco with rockin’ music. No really the music is actually good but then it is an Adult Swim (Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law, Robot Chicken, Moral Orel ect…) production so I wouldn’t expect any less from them.

Your going to stick what in where?
Posted on November 2, 2010 by Jingles | No Comments

Aram Bartholl is the person behind “Dead Drops”, an anonymous, offline, peer to peer file-sharing network in public space. He is ‘injecting’ USB flash drives into walls, buildings and curbs accessable to anybody in public space. You are invited to go to these places (so far 5 in NYC) to drop or find files on a dead drop. Plug your laptop to a wall, house or pole to share your favorite files and data. Each dead drop contains a readme.txt file explaining the project. ‘Dead Drops’ is still in progress. This is one project I’m going to keep an eye on to see how it evolves. I’m thinking it has great potential.
