What’s the time? Mashup time!

You know you are getting old(er) when you hear kids talking about music they just discovered for the first time like it’s so fresh and brand spanking new new like mashups, smashups, bastard rock/pop what ever the crap you want to call it. I like the term ‘mashup’.
Wikipedia describes a mashup, in reference to music, as “a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another. To the extent that such works are ‘transformative’ of original content”.
If you are late to the party don’t worry I have hand picked some hot mashups for you.
100DBS – Aphex Twin mashups – 100DBS mashes up some of Richard D James’ hoons with some Busta Rhymes, Peaches, Nas, TI, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip, Afrika Bambaataa, OC, and Kool Keith with awesome results.
Divide & Kreate – Crazy in the deep [Gnarles Barkley vs. Adele] – This is what happens when you mash Gnarls Barkley – Crazy with Adele – Rolling in the Deep. On a similar tip if you like Adele’s Rolling in the Deep then hit up The Heatwave for The Heatwave Refix of Adele’s Rolling in the Deep, it’s so hot I had to wheel it 3x it’s that mad!
DJ Schmolli – CLXXIV EP – If you like D&B and are a bit partial to rock then you will love DJ Schmolli’s 5 track CLXXIV EP.
DJ C has the midas touch, pretty much anything that he touches turns to gold, hit up his Mashit blog for a bunch of free choons and mixes from jungle, breakcore, dubstep & club bangers to ravey dancehall anthems. My top pics are:
- DJ C – Billy Jungle – a rediculously awesome jungle mix of Michael Jacksons Billie Jean.
- DJ C (Ft. The Jackson 5, Steven Marley, Naughty By Nature) The ABC Traffic Jam (Armed With Harmony) – Basstastic! I can wheel this mashup a million times and never get sick of it.
- Murderbot – B52′s love Shack remix – Love shack is probably my second favorite B52′s song (behind Rock Lobster) and Murderbots club-house-garage refix just makes this song even better!
- Apeboy – Enya vs Prodigy, Apeboy gives Enya and The Prodigy the mahup treatment with dope results.
Mashuptown also has a nice selection of mashups to trawl through as does Mashupciti. Audio Porn Central has some audible delights for your ears, have a read of the disclaimer, it made me LOL, watch out because they are fucking bad people and criminals! If that’s not enough then hit up Disco Dust for some more mashed up goodness.
